Why We Do What We Do

We Do Care is often asked - "Why do you do what you do?"

We Do Care Mission
Caitlin SmileMeet Caitlin Fitzgerald
Airman Caitlin Fitzgerald at the age of 23 and a 2003 Barrington High School graduate is why we do what we do!

Caitlin currently calls the USS Enterprise home where only 6 pull-ups are keeping her from qualifying for diving school.  As focused and committed as Caitlin is, she is working hard everyday to build up to these additional reps. She is committed to making it happen because her goal is to become a U.S. Navy Diving Medical Technician.  This will require successfully completing a 119-day course designed to provide qualified Hospital Corpsman the needed expertise in advanced diving physics, medicine and underwater physiology as well as the treatment of diving related injuries such as the bends and gas embolisms.  As the motto of the Navy Dive School claims, that is "Performance Under Pressure!"
What The Navy Has Done For Caitlin - In Her Own WordsCaitlin With Sailors
"There are many things that the Navy has had to offer! Where do I begin? Well let's see, besides all of the basic benefits of an opportunity at an education, medical/dental, housing etc. I have been half way across the world, worked with people from different countries side by side, seen places I never would have seen had I not been in the Navy, and made some life long friends and created unforgettable memories! The Navy has many doors for you to walk through, you just need to know how to walk through them. Even just learning that is something important.

Learning to work extremely hard at the task at hand and working hard on your own time to achieve higher goals such as an education, or in my case a different job in the Navy and an education, is also very valuable. But these are things that you have to want to do - as in anything in life, nothing is just handed to you. I think it took being given the chance at an insurmountable amount of resources as a catalyst to really get the ball rolling. And it is rolling!"

And you can strive to achieve a higher goal just like Caitlin, by participating in our inaugural 9.11 Mile Freedom Run or 5.6 Mile Freedom Run/Walk.  Register Here.

"I am extremely proud that people have taken such a huge interest in what we are doing out here.  What you guys are doing at home make so many of us realize that you support us and our cause.  It makes our mission and the time we spend away from home that much more worth it.

What a great country we have where people come together to send packages or create avenues for people who don't know how to support the troops, but would like to! The festival you guys are putting together is such a great way to appreciate all of the people in the military and their families! You might be proud of us but we are proud of you too when we see how much you do on your end. Especially to see that where I grew up.  It really makes me proud of where I come from."
