This is Chicagoland’s most inspirational running event, and this year our scouts will make it the most inspirational yet. As the participants run alongside our soldiers (who are given free registration) our scouts will line the route providing words of encouragement and supporting the 9 military values of loyalty, personal courage, integrity, duty, commitment, selfless service, honor, excellence, & respect.
So that we may organize your troop & pack’s participation please email Randy Hansen at: Rhansenbsa@gmail.com
"As Chicagoland scouts show our troops that We Do Care by supporting the 9.11 mile Freedom Run on September 12th in Barrington, over 500 soldiers, sailors, marines, air men, and coast guard will participate in “shadow runs” of the same race in Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Eskan Village Saudi Arabia, and Forward Operating Base Altimur in Afghanistan. This event is a “don’t miss” for scouts, families, and entire troops and packs. Plan on being a part of this patriotic day!"

View The YouTube Video - Hear From U.S. Army and Marine Corps Soldiers, and Scouts
We have prepared a YouTube video to outline these opportunities, meaning, and fun that our scouts will have by participating in the Family Freedom Festival and Freedom Run on Saturday, September 12, 2009 in Barrington Illinois. The video will give you a great feeling for what they day is all about, and the fun that you and your scouts will have by attending.
You will hear direct from U.S. Army and Marine Corps Soldiers as well as our own scouts. This is a great video to show your scouts! To view the video click on the soldier's picture above and make sure your computer volume is turned up!
Your scouts will have the time of their lves as they interact with our military and participate in the many hands-on activities provided by our military. Climbing walls, U.S. Coast Guard boats, virtual firing ranges, military vehicles and the famous and challenging Marine Corps Pull-Up Bars, and a whole lot more!
As the Freedom Race concludes, right before the start of the Freedom Festival we will muster the scouts along with the participating military members at the race finish line. Our special guest, Lieutenant General Benjamin Freakley will address the scouts personally and thank them for their service not only during these events but as scouts in general. This will be a touching moment for the scouts.
There will also be a one hour window during the Festival to give your attending scouts a personal meet and greet with representatives of the military so that the scouts can ask whatever questions they may have within a “scouts only” environment.Scouting Promotion "We have partnered with We Do Care to allow for promotion of Boy Scouts of American at this great event. We will manning a table in the middle of the festival to meet with the thousand of attendees to share the scouting story.
This is a wonderful outreach opportunity for all the troops, packs, and crews of the district to tell the scouting story. We hope that you will join us throughout the day. Come visit our scouting table - and better yet, email me to let me know that you will be attending so we can see how you and your scouts can best participate."
