Freedom Run Goes International!

5 Locations - 4 Overseas Military Bases - 3 Continents

In 2010, We Do Care will produce our Barrington, IL Freedom Run plus four shadow runs on military bases on three continents, all in an effort to support and thank our troops .  The overseas military bases are:

  • USAG Benelux in Chievres, Belgium - Home to SHAPE; Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe
  • USAG Grafenwoehr in Grafenwoehr, Germany - The largest U.S. Army Garrison outside of the continental United States
  • Guantanamo Bay Cuba - "The finest little gated community in the Caribbean" that conducts safe, humane, legal and transparent care and custody for detainees.
  • Eskan Village Saudi Arabia - The home of the U.S. Military Training Mission to Saudi Arabia.
We are very excited about these new locations!  You can read more about them below.

Eskan Village, Saudi Arabia is home to the men and women of the United States Military Training Mission and its current Chief is Major General Paul Van Sickle.  We expect to have over 250 runners participate in the 9.11 mile run at Eskan Village.  In August, the temperature in Riyadh will be approximately 120 degrees, but may rise to as high as 145 degrees.  We are proud of the dedication and support of our men and women in Eskan Village and look forward to our shadow run there.

You can read more about the great work our men and women in the United States Military Training Mission are doing at Eskan Village Saudi Arabia.  Their unit motto is "Mission First, People Always."

We will be adding more information about the service men and women at the other locations in the coming weeks.  Please check back to learn more about those who protect our freedom.

We Do Care partnered with Joint Task Force Guantanamo in 2008 and 2009 to have over 250 service men and women deployed to "one of the finest gated communities in the Caribbean" take part in our September 6th inaugural Freedom Run at US Naval Base Guantanamo Bay. We are looking forward to having them all run again in 2010.

Stories from 2008 Freedom Run
Running As A Family - 1650 Miles Apart
We promise Chicagoland's most inspirational race and our first race registrants will provide a piece of that inspiration. First Lieutenant Sarah Cleveland will take part in our race with her mother and sister.  The catch is that Sarah deployed in April to Guantanamo Bay with the Wisconsin Army National Guard's Mobile Public Affairs Detachment.

Sarah's sister Heather will be traveling to Barrington from Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and her mother Susan will make the trip from Little Chute, Wisconsin so they may participate with Sarah - while 1650 miles apart!

Hot & Sweaty Just Like Us!Sarah Family Run
The family sent in the picture to the right of the whole gang - moms, dads, sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles participating in a race while Sarah was deployed on an earlier mission to Afghanistan.

Susan commented to me "I love when we can run as a group, knowing that Sarah will be running at the same time and the same distance but in a different place is very cool.  While she is deployed, I find myself wondering at certain times where she is and what she is doing. This time we will know exactly what she is doing. She will be hot & sweaty just like us!"

We do hope you'll join Sarah, Susan, and Heather during what promises to be Chicagoland's (and now Guantanamo Bay's) most inspirational race!

And remember, in support and thanks of our troops, We Do Care waives all race fees for Active Duty and family members of deployed troops as well as a 50% discount for other military members and veterans.
